From hells valley to heaven…
Passing hells valley we reach heaven, before having our first stop in Freiburg. Freiburg is a lovely middle age town with small lanes and historical monuments. During your guided tour you’ll see old villas, the house of the whale, the bubbling streams passing through the town, and last but not least, the famous cathedral of Freiburg.

Freiburg with its former abattoir, the cathedral and its colourful market
Time for a light lunch, the “Lange Rote. This is the famous long sausage of Freiburg, very well known because of its good taste and quality.
We continue our journey back to the Black Forest through a vine valley. It is an exceptional wine region, they do winery at 500 meters sea level!
By passing the vineyards we taste the most famous one, it’s a Weissherbst. Looks like a rosé but it is not a rosé.
Next stop is the most beautiful Baroque church of the Black Forest, part of a monastery and built by monks.
Now its time for a cruise! At lake Titisee we change the car for boarding a ship. Lake Titisee is surrounded by mountains, and depending the weather we’ll see our highest peak

Black Forest gateau
, the mountain “Feldberg”. It’s a gorgeous view.
In our lovely little museum you’ll see a treasury of folk art from the 18th and 19th century.
If you visit the Black Forest without tasting a Black Forest gateau, you haven’t been here!
Our baker shows us the preparation of our traditional cake and then we’ll have a nice cup of coffee or tea with it, before we just pop into a distillery and continue our tasting with homemade Black Forest Schnaps.
Light-hearted and happy we drive back to the hotel.
Just water?
The Swiss Rhinefalls and the German Beer

Just amazing - the Rhinefalls
Today we are visiting the largest waterfall of Europe, which is situated in one of the smallest countries of Europe!
The Rhine falls of Schaffhausen are magnificent. Not so much for their height, but for thei impressive breadth with the spray rising in a cloud of rainbows above the forested banks. You have the possibility to see the falls from one of the daredevil boats going to the banks, eye to eye with the roaring waters.
Next stop is in 1000 years old village Stein am Rhein, a perfectly preserved medieval village.
In the middle age gossiping and blabbing was forbidden in the snickelways of Stein am Rhein. But times are changing, listen to your guide, he will tell you old stories about the people and you will get to know how came the richness and prosperity about this little village.
Back to the black Forest we need a drink!

German, or better Black Forest beer. Cheers - Prost!
Guided tour in a small familyrun brewery. After the guided tour is enough time to taste all the different beers and lemonades they produce.
Back to the hotel
Rebels, woodcarvers, monks and a trumpeter
Passing old farmhouses and crossing romantic valleys we drive over the mountain Feldberg, our highest peek in the Black Forest, up to the river Rhine. First stop is at the middle age village Bad Säckingen, situated at the banks of the river Rhine. Bad Säckingen has the longest wood covered bridge of Europe!
The trumpeter of Säckingen (the trumpeter is a person from a German novel) welcomes you and will give you some more information about the history of his town.
Free time to enjoy the village yourself and for having lunch in one of the small restaurants.
By coach we continue our journey to the very heart of the Black Forest. In an old wood carver’s house, which is a museum today, Margret is waiting for you, wearing her traditional Black Forest costume. While guiding you through this old house she has a lot of stories to tell you.
Afterwards you have the possibility to watch a wood craftsman doing his job as they did in former times.

Margret waits for you in her traditional costume
Last stop is in St. Blasien, with its famous dome. One of the first Black Forest monasteries was built in St.Blasien. Monk Reginbert welcomes you and will tell you about his hard life in this monastery, hundreds of years ago.
Before going back to the hotel the monk serves a drink for your refreshment.
The Black Forest clock tradesman
A Black Forest clock tradesman welcomes the guests at the hotel and decides spontaneously to join them.
During the day he talks about the history and tells tales about his life 200 years ago.
First stop is at the 450 years old farmhouses. The Black Forest clock tradesman grew up in such an old farmhouse. And during our visit he will let you know more about the hard life in former times.
Coincidentally we will meet an old farmer’s wife from the 18th century. She prepares her own typical Black Forest liver sausage and Black Forest ham. Let’s have a short break for your refreshment.

Refreshment with typical Black Forest specialities - our Canadian group enjoyed it!
Strengthened we continue our journey through the Black Forest.
Passing the world greatest Black Forest cuckoo clock we arrive at Triberg and enter the gorgeously, wood carved hall of the town hall, which is a masterpiece of Black Forest crafting.
Your Black Forest clock tradesman tells you the story about the stubborn artist who did this wonderful piece of art.
Next stop is at the source of the Danube. Cheers! For an aperitif we have a glass of fresh Danube spring water before we enjoy some light lunch at an idyllic inn nearby.

Cuckoo clock
In the afternoon your Black Forest clock tradesman guides you through the German Clock Museum. Furtwangen was the very heart of the clockmaking industry, starting 350 years ago.
